Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered
Everything you need to know about pool safety compliance in Queensland.
What is a pool safety certificate and do I need one?
A Pool Safety Certificate (Form 23) is a legal document confirming your pool barrier meets Queensland safety standards. In Queensland, you are required to have a current certificate when selling, leasing, or renting a property with a pool.
Certificates are valid for 2 years for non-shared pools and 1 year for shared pools (such as those in units, townhouses, and community title schemes).
How long does an inspection take?
Most inspections take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the pool’s safety barrier. Our inspector will check your barriers, gates, CPR signage, and surrounding areas against the Queensland single pool safety standard.
Do I need to be present for the inspection?
No — you don’t need to be present. As long as we have safe access to the pool area, we can complete the inspection. If anything needs attention, you’ll receive a clear written report with photos and step-by-step instructions.
Where minor repairs are needed, our inspector can often coordinate and complete these on the spot. More than 4 in 5 GCPI pools are compliant on the day.*
What happens if my pool doesn’t pass?
It happens — and it’s nothing to stress about. If your pool doesn’t comply, we issue a Form 26 Non-Conformity Notice, which gives you up to 90 days to rectify any issues before council is notified.
Here’s what happens next:
You receive a clear report outlining exactly what needs to be fixed
Our team of compliance-specialist handymen can provide a quote for any rectifications
If you use our handymen for repairs, you receive a 50% discount on your reinspection fee
We’ll coordinate the reinspection to happen on the same day as repairs, or shortly after — keeping things moving fast
Important: Under Queensland law, once a Form 26 is issued, you are legally required to use the same pool safety inspector for your reinspection. This rule exists to ensure continuity and prevent inspector-shopping. We’ll stay with you every step of the way until your pool is certified.
Council is only notified if no action is taken within the 90-day period. If you respond and work towards compliance, council involvement is not required.
What are the most common reasons pools fail?
The most common issues we see are:
Gate hinges or latches that don’t self-close properly
Climbable objects too close to the fence (plants, BBQs, outdoor furniture)
Pool fence height below 1200mm
Gaps in fencing greater than 100mm
Missing, outdated, or incorrectly placed CPR sign
The good news: most of these are minor issues we can fix on the spot. If you want to get ahead of it before booking, here are three options:
Yes. In Queensland, all residential pools must be registered with the QBCC Swimming Pool Register before a safety certificate can be issued. Failure to register can result in fines.
We recommend checking the register before booking your inspection — especially for newer pools, as builders don’t always complete the registration. The register is publicly searchable at my.qbcc.qld.gov.au.
If your pool isn’t listed, you can register it directly through the QBCC website by following the prompts. It typically takes 2–3 business days for the registry to update — so you can complete the registration and still book your inspection without any delays.
How long is a pool safety certificate valid for?
In Queensland, a Pool Safety Certificate (Form 23) is valid for:
2 years — non-shared pools (standalone residential properties)
1 year — shared pools (units, townhouses, community title schemes, resorts)
What areas do you service on the Gold Coast?
We service the full Gold Coast region — from Coolangatta in the south to Ormeau in the north, and from the coast all the way into the hinterland including Tamborine Mountain. If you’re unsure whether we cover your suburb, give us a call and we’ll confirm.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. All inspections are carried out by a QBCC-licensed pool safety inspector (Licence No. PS15536295). We hold both Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance, so you’re fully covered every step of the way.
I’m a builder or landscaper — can you help before I complete the work?
Yes — this is exactly what our Remote Compliance Consultation ($97) is designed for. We can review your plans, give practical compliance advice, and help you avoid costly mistakes before construction or repairs begin.
If you’d prefer to talk it through first, call us on 0450 661 642. Get sign-off confidence before your client calls an inspector.
